SNWP Fall Writing Camp 2025 – Write Your Story: A Young Author’s Journey

The Southern Nevada Writing Project is excited to announce our 2025 Fall Writing Camp series: Write Your Story: A Young Author’s Journey! This three-part workshop is designed for students in grades 5–8 who are ready to plan, write, and share the stories only they can tell. Whether your child dreams of novels, loves journaling, or wants to try something new, these sessions will guide them step by step through the writing process—from first idea to final spotlight.

Camp Options
Students may register for a single session or the full series for the complete writing journey.

✨ Session 1 – Story Blueprints: Planning the Novel Only You Can Tell
📅 Saturday, October 18, 2025 | ⏰ 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM | 💲 $75
Every great book starts with an idea! Students will discover what makes a story powerful, explore characters and settings, and map out their very own story plan—just in time for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).

✨ Session 2 – Show, Don’t Tell: Adding Details that Captivate Readers
📅 Saturday, November 15, 2025 | ⏰ 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM | 💲 $75
Bring stories to life! Students will learn how to write vivid scenes using dialogue, description, and sensory detail to create writing that shines.

✨ Session 3 – From Draft to Spotlight: Celebrating Your Writing
📅 Saturday, December 6, 2025 | ⏰ 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM | 💲 $75
Writing is meant to be shared. Students will polish their work, build confidence reading aloud, and showcase their writing at a family-and-friends celebration.

💡 Full Series Special: $200 for all three sessions.

Who Can Join?
This camp is open to students entering grades 5–8.
High school students interested in volunteering as mentor writers can register HERE.

2025 Summer Writing Camp for Grades 5-12

The Southern Nevada Writing Project is thrilled to announce our 2025 summer writing camp: “Write the Future: Igniting Creativity Across Campus”! This immersive three-day experience is designed for students entering 5th through 12th grade who are passionate about writing and storytelling. Whether you love fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or personal narratives, this camp will help you unlock your potential, sharpen your skills, and celebrate your work in a vibrant community of young writers.

Camp Details

  • Who: Students entering grades 5-12 during the 2025-2026 school year
  • What: Three-day writing camp exploring creativity across a college campus
  • Where: UNLV – 4505 S. Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89154
  • When: Wednesday, May 28 – Friday, May 30, 2025, from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Cost: $150 per student (includes lunch, all writing materials, and activities)

Registration Open – Youth Writing Programs Summer 2024

Southern Nevada Writing Project will be offering two unique summer writing camps for students across the valley for summer 2024. In celebration of our 40th year in Southern Nevada, this year’s “Celebrate Writing!” camps will be a celebration of fiction and non-fiction writing. Our camps are led by master teachers who facilitate engaging writing experiences that animate young authors of all ages!

The registration fee of $250 includes one week of camp, an official camp t-shirt, writing and craft supplies, and daily snacks.

Writing Fusion: Project Perspective! (Grades 1 – 6)

Our emphasis is on creating life-long writers who feel confident and comfortable in all steps of the writing process. Students of all ability levels will explore different genres and engage in various types of authentic writing activities to challenge them to grow as writers. This year’s camp will take students on a journey of discovery around the idea of perspective. Writers will look at point of view through the use of photograph, green screen, virtual reality, and drones.

Young Rebel Writers: Project Perspective! (Grade 7 – 8)

An exciting writing event just for middle school students grade 7-8.

  • Tell your stories through personal narratives, poems, and fiction.
  • Experiment with various genres and media available to writers.
  • Use writing to spread the word about community issues.
  • Share your voice and perspective with technology and photography.

Rebel Writing (Grades 9  -12)

Working with experienced teachers who love writing, students will explore ways to make their writing meaningful, covering many genres from slam poetry to narrative. Walking field trips to local publishers and bookstores, guest speakers, and technology integration all add to the experience by showing how writing can be a powerful medium of expression. This writing camp seeks to challenge students to explore, collaborate, and grow through their work to produce purposeful writing that impacts others.
