SNWP Summer Writing Camp 2026 – StoryLab: Writing Across Media

The Southern Nevada Writing Project is thrilled to announce our 2026 summer writing camp: StoryLab: Writing Across Media, an immersive three-day experience designed for students entering 1st through 9th grade who are passionate about storytelling and creative expression.  At the heart of this camp is strong, purposeful writing. Students will draft, revise, and strengthen their work while exploring how writing can take shape across formats such as podcasts, comics, scripts, digital storytelling, and spoken word. Whether you love fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or imaginative storytelling, this camp will help you grow as a writer, experiment with creative possibilities, and celebrate your work in a vibrant community of young creators.

Camp Details

  • Who: Students entering grades 1-9 during the 2026-2027 school year
    • If you have a high school student entering grades 10-12 interested in volunteering as a mentor writer, please click HERE to register your student.
  • What: Three-day writing camp exploring creativity across a college campus
  • Where: UNLV – 4505 S. Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89154
  • When: Wednesday, May 27 – Friday, May 29, 2026, from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
    •  Before care from 8:00 – 9:00 AM, and after care from 4:00 – 5:00 PM with optional writing activities will be provided for families.
  • Cost: $225 per student (includes lunch, all writing materials, and activities)

Writer Inspiring Writers Virtual Event – Thursday, March 19, 2:30 PM PST

Dream with NCTE award-winning authors, Southern Nevada Writing Project directors, and teacher-consultants in this presentation inspiring educators to help young writers dream and create. Participants will engage in writing, learn that writing does not happen in isolation—even award-winning authors are inspired by other writers—and discuss how to use mentor texts to foster classroom writing.

SNWP Spring Writing Camp 2026 – Writing to Win: A Training Camp for Winning High-Stakes Writing Tasks

The Southern Nevada Writing Project is excited to announce our 2026 Spring Writing Camp series: Writing to Win—A Training Camp for Winning High-Stakes Writing Tasks. This three-part workshop is designed for students in grades 5–8 who are preparing to take the SBAC Performance Tasks this spring.

Across the series, writers will strengthen their skills in short answer/constructed responsenarrative writing, and argumentative writing, all while learning how to meet the unique expectations of SBAC writing. Writers are definitely more than test scores—but we still want them to score all the points and win the SBAC game!

Details of the camp are below, and a PDF flyer is attached. Please feel free to share this widely with any families who may be interested.

Camp Options

Students may register for a single session or the full series for the complete writing journey.

Session 1 – Quick Write Kick-Off!

Master the fundamentals of short-answer and constructed response writing to score with clarity and confidence.
Core Moves include:

  • Reading the Play — understanding the prompt
  • Proving Your Power — selecting the strongest evidence
  • Holding the Line — staying focused and on topic with clear reasoning

Session 2 – Next Level Narratives
📅 Saturday, February 28, 2026 | ⏰ 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM | 💲75

Build stories that win hearts and minds. Writers will focus on crafting engaging narratives that meet SBAC expectations.
Core Moves include:

  • Drafting the Game Plan — characters, details, and integrating facts
  • Highlight Reel Moments — dialogue and details that pack a punch
  • Show-Don’t-Tell Footwork — crafting vivid scenes

Session 3 – Claim the Game, Champions!
📅 Saturday, March 7, 2026 | ⏰ 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM | 💲75

Make your case, counter the opposition, and leave no doubt. This session focuses on argumentative writing strategies.
Core Moves include:

  • Review the Game Footage — gathering strong evidence
  • Evidence Plays & Reasoning Routines
  • Block the Shots — rebuttal strategies
  • Rally the Crowd — crafting a strong call to action

The Southern Nevada Writing Project is excited to announce our 2025 Fall Writing Camp series: Write Your Story: A Young Author’s Journey! This three-part workshop is designed for students in grades 5–8 who are ready to plan, write, and share the stories only they can tell. Whether your child dreams of novels, loves journaling, or wants to try something new, these sessions will guide them step by step through the writing process—from first idea to final spotlight.

✨ Session 1 – Story Blueprints: Planning the Novel Only You Can Tell

Every great book starts with an idea! Students will discover what makes a story powerful, explore characters and settings, and map out their very own story plan—just in time for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).

Bring stories to life! Students will learn how to write vivid scenes using dialogue, description, and sensory detail to create writing that shines.
