Ready to turn your experiences, ideas, and stories into a college application essay? College Essay Writing Workshop is an intensive one-day writing experience designed for current 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who want to develop a strong, authentic personal essay for college and scholarship applications.

Students will begin by exploring possible topics drawn from their own lives and the Common Application essay prompts for the 2026–2027 application cycle. From there, they will experience the complete writing process: generating and developing ideas, drafting, receiving feedback, revising, and preparing a polished final draft. Throughout the day, students will work with instructors and peers to discover the stories, experiences, and personal perspectives that can make an application essay meaningful and memorable.

Before the workshop concludes, every student will share a portion of their writing with the group, giving them the opportunity to celebrate their progress and learn from the experiences of their fellow writers. Students should expect to leave with a developing college essay draft that, with some additional polishing, can be used for college or scholarship applications this year.

Location and Materials: The workshop takes place on the UNLV campus, and all writing materials are included.

Grade Levels: This summer camp is open to any student who is currently in grades 10, 11, and 12.

Lunch: Lunch is included in the cost of the workshop and will be provided in the UNLV Dining Commons. The Dining Commons is all-you-can-eat with a variety of dining options to choose from. Your student must be aware of any allergies and/or dietary concerns. We encourage students to ask the Dining Commons staff any questions they may have regarding the food options.

Cost: $80
